Supplemental Medical Coverage
Added financial protection you can pair with your medical plan.
You’re eligible to enroll in supplemental coverage plans through Unum if you regularly work at least 20 hours per week.
These supplemental medical coverage plans pay a cash benefit directly to you to help pay for expenses not covered by your medical plan:
- Accident insurance, if you’re injured in an accident outside of work.
- Critical illness insurance, if you’re diagnosed with a covered illness such as a heart attack, stroke or certain cancers.
- Hospital indemnity insurance, if you’re admitted to the hospital for a covered accident or illness, or childbirth.
How supplemental coverage works
An injury, serious medical condition or hospitalization can happen suddenly and impact you financially. Even with medical plan coverage, there are still out-of-pocket medical costs such as deductibles, copays and coinsurance.
Supplemental medical coverage pays you a lump sum cash benefit to lessen the financial burden while you receive treatment and recover. You can use the money for medical or non-medical expenses.
Who you can cover
If you enroll yourself in employee coverage, you can also enroll your spouse and dependent children.
